The Cedar Sweeper Resources Page

Update 29-Jul-08:  We have began the construction of the resource page.  We will add a little at a time; links and short notes on our favorite places and things that relate to fishing, writing, and even hunting.  So check back often and don't forget to click on the links, there just might be something really interesting on the other end.

FISHING:

BALDWIN BAIT AND TACKLE

Baldwin Bait and Tackle in Baldwin, Michigan on the Pere Marquette River.  This is our prefered fly shop when we are in town for salmon camp, steelhead camp, a trout trip, or a quick bounce to a lake for some walleyes or panfish.  The service at BBT is fast and friendly, the price is fair, and you will feel comfortable in the shop (one of our most important criteria).  The web site has provided interesting up to date reports on the PM for years and Steve is always gracious when somebody says, "Hey man great report.  They really keep me going when I can't get to the river."

OLD AUSABLE FLY SHOP

The Old AuSable Fly Shop is a new shop on the banks of the famous AuSable River in Grayling, Michigan.  We were recently up to the AuSable for a trout trip and were able to stop in.  They are running a clean shop, with good equipment, and (according to our most important criteria) you will feel comfortable in the shop.  We had the occasion to run into one of the owner Andy and he was very open about the possibilities for the evening fishing and the various accesses, wades, and floats.  It was good to see a customer friendly shop in Grayling that doesn't seem to be trying to do too much.

R AND R FLY FISHING

R and R flyfishing, the smoky mountains premier trout fishing outfitter.  R and R is owned and operated by Ian and Charity Rutter.  We have not fished with Ian and Charity but we have had extensive contact with the duo.  Our exchanges have always been straight forward and honest, and that alone has caused us to want to fish with them next time we make it down to the Smoky's.  They offer various packages; from roadside fishing on the Little River to tailwater floats and high country brookie trips.  Check them out for up to date fishing reports for the Smoky's and surrounding area.  Oh yeah, did we mention that Ian is a writer; now we really like him.

Jeff Hubbard's Outfitters North

We have fished with Jeff before and must say that he more than earned his nickname as the fish pimp.  This guy knew every rock and piece of lumber in the river and was able to call his shots in some cases.  He provided us with excellent service throughout or Pere Marquette float and had all the right gear and flies.  If you get the chance to fish with Jeff do it.  If you get the chance to check out his site do it.  He offers up a timely report along with a fly of the month and some stellar photos.

Gates Lodge

We have fished the AuSable for more than a few years and can recommend Gates Lodge for two things.  The convienence of the fly shop, right on the banks of the AuSable at Stephan Bridge and Rusty Gates timely and update report.  Be sure to check out the report before your next visit and drop in the shop if there is somehting that you need.

KMF Production and Woodland Rivers

I was introduced to Kip, the proprietor, through my brother who has fished with him before.  Kip's site comes at with an opportunity to book a guide trip and purchase some hand tied flies.  I also recommend a visit to the forum at the site as the conversation can be interesting and covers all the bases as far as fishing goes.  Kip serves the southeastern Michigan fly fishing contingent; a valuable service when so many of our rivers lie to the north.
