Volume III / Issue IV May 2008
Our route to town crossed a trout stream, and my mother stopped the Oldsmobile just beyond the bridge when a solitary fisherman caught my eye. The little river flowed swiftly, tumbling past the timbers of the bridge, and there were mayflies dancing in the sunlight. Its riffles seemed alive over its pale bottom, where the cedar sweepers and deadfalls intercepted its glittering currents. The counterpoint of its river music filled the morning, its lyric images as sharply focused as yesterday after forty years.
